PowerPlay Pickleball: A Referral Programme for Healthcare Professionals
West Northamptonshire Pickleball CIC is committed to supporting public health by providing accessible, engaging, and effective physical activity programmes. Our PowerPlay Pickleball initiative is designed to work in partnership with healthcare providers to offer a structured, evidence-informed pathway to improved health and well-being for your patients.
Through a unique blend of low-impact pickleball and functional strength training, we empower individuals to overcome barriers to exercise, build lasting healthy habits, and join a supportive community.
Programme Overview and Health Outcomes
The PowerPlay Pickleball programme is a free 4-6 week course specifically for patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 30, as well as young people. The programme is designed to deliver a range of health benefits in a non-intimidating and social environment:
-
Clinically Relevant Benefits: Our blend of moderate-intensity pickleball and resistance training directly contributes to improved cardiovascular fitness, effective calorie expenditure, and increased muscle mass—all key factors in the management of obesity and related health conditions.
-
Low-Impact and Accessible: The low-impact nature of pickleball makes it an ideal option for patients who may find higher-impact sports difficult or uncomfortable. The activity is easily adaptable to suit varying fitness levels and physical abilities.
-
Mental and Social Well-being: The programme’s focus on social interaction, fun, and skill development helps to reduce stress, combat social isolation, and build confidence, which are critical components of a successful long-term health journey.

The PowerPlay Pickleball programme is managed by our Director, Kate Vincent, who brings a diverse and highly relevant set of professional qualifications to ensure the safety and success of every patient referral.
